A Dare from Pastor Ais - Just Bags and Village Works
A Sunday in December, Pastor Ais gave such a compelling announcement at Mount Pleasant services, that I wanted to share this with you here.
Just Bags are Christmas bags filled with ethically sourced products —including handmade candles and natural soap, multi-purpose upcycled small bag, fair trade coffee and tea, a wallet, earrings and facial spray as well as a few other goodies, made and assembled with our refugee community and volunteers. Those are the items INSIDE the bags— but I have got to take this moment to tell you about why I’m so excited about the signature bags themselves!
In November, some of our Tenth team members spent the month in Cambodia strengthening operations and designing a new line of bags and accessories with Village Works in Phnom Penh. Friends, I need to tell you purchasing a bag, (or two, or three) is a celebration of the Spirit led-initiative, resourcefulness, and transformation represented in the vision and design of these bags ALONE!!!
I’ve been to the Village Works retail shop in Cambodia. And I’ve seen the production area in action. I’ve watched the women and men behind these special products creating. I want to make sure you know how our JustBags were created. One day the founder, Anak, a Grace-filled Cambodian sister in Christ, was standing near the museum where people go to remember the atrocity of the genocide that took place in their nation not that long ago. As Anak watched that day, she saw people, with body altering disabilities, trying to eek out a living while begging on the street. Anak says the Spirit led her to say to many of them— do you want to beg to survive, or do you want to learn a trade and work?! She then taught each of them how to sew and create products for their livelihood! THIS IS AMAZING! This gift of new hope being birthed through courageous spirit-led prayer!
