Education and InjusticeDear Tenth family, As we pay attention to education this month, may we approach the world as students, adopting a posture of openness to learning in all areas of our lives. Oh, how I love Your teaching! It is my study all day long. Psalm 119:97 The back to school season is full of challenges for students and families under normal circumstances, and the COVID-19 pandemic is presenting new hardships daily. In this newsletter you will be prompted to pray for the students in your life, and for students around the world - especially in Cambodia. You'll learn a bit about what the back to school season looks like in Cambodia, and hear a story about Serey, one of Tenth's partners in Cambodia who has spent her life learning and leading. I hope that you are encouraged and inspired by these stories! With God, for others, Holly |

Back to School! What does the pandemic mean for students in Cambodia? Students are heading back to school for the first time since March, and this year back to school season looks different than it has in the past. Many students are trying to get by without the resources and technology necessary for online school. In Cambodia, 2.6 million of the 3.2 million students enrolled in public school live in rural areas of the country, and for these students in particular, back to school season means navigating new challenges. Since schools closed in March, inequalities have been revealed and exacerbated by the pandemic. COVID-19 is more than just a health crisis. “It has been an economic, social and educational crisis as well. And what’s more, these crises have had unequal consequences – with the poor feeling the impacts the hardest”.... For more infomation visit:

Serey's Story of ChangeWritten by Lynn Ogata Ms. Serey Choeng is DOVE’s Phnom Penh Onyx Leadership Manager. Lynn has been privileged to witness how God has been developing Serey as a leader. Serey grew up in a poor community in Phnom Penh. When she was young, she collected recyclable trash and sold snacks to help support her family. As a result, her schooling was inconsistent, and she only finished 6th grade. Since then, she has finished her high school education and become a leader with Alongsiders and DOVE, impacting the people she's surrounded by every day... For more infomation visit:

Stories from JUST 58Why these film screenings are worth your time In a time when meeting together is challenging, and the realities of injustice are flaring up around the world, I felt great solidarity in attending JUST58 – a film screening and discussion event hosted by Tenth Global. Although I have called Tenth home since 2007, I have to admit that I knew very little about the atrocities that took place in Cambodia – the country we’ve had a strategic partnership with since 2006! I had heard in passing phrases like “Khmer Rouge”, “a country of young people”, and “tourism enabling sexual exploitation” but only got a real sense of the situation (both past and present) this past summer during JUST58. After one of the screenings, Jeff and I spent time researching and learning more about the history of Cambodia, and it was sobering to learn about the politics and devastation that took place and continues to harm... Global and Local will be hosting more film screenings like JUST 58 in the fall, and you're invited! Find out more about the first one here. For more infomation visit:

Doctrine of DiscoveryFilm Screening & Discussion Tenth Global and Tenth Local have a lot of overlap in the work we do. Seeking justice internationally, and within our own city, requires educating ourselves on the history and present day challenges that marginalized individuals face. Watching a film together is a fantastic way to learn something new. That's why I'm so excited to share an event that Tenth Local is hosting. Tenth Local is pleased to offer an opportunity for each site to watch and discuss what our role is both as followers of Christ and as people living on unceded lands. "Doctrine of Discovery: Stolen lands, Strong Hearts” is a film about the devastation that continues to profoundly impact Indigenous people worldwide... For more infomation visit:

One Can Give Without LovingBut One Cannot Love Without Giving Exodus 35:4-5 says “Moses said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, ‘This is the thing that the Lord has commanded. Take from among you a contribution to the Lord. Whoever is of a generous heart, let him bring the Lord’s contribution …’” In this time of great uncertainty for our partners in Cambodia and Mexico, and can offer our generosity to support the work that they are doing amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are two ways you can help: 1. Pray - Click here to find specific requests for prayer in this season. Everything that Tenth Global does to support partners in Cambodia and Mexico, missionaries across the globe, and refugees here in Vancouver is supported by these three funds, and they do not receive money from Tenth's General Fund (offering). 100% of your donations to these funds go to local and global ministry, and the work of Tenth Global is made possible by you and your generosity. Thank you for your continued support! For more infomation visit:
