The Oasis Café Community

When and how did you first come across Oasis Café?                         

I heard about Tenth Church from a friend and started attending services in August 2018. I had just retired early and was interested in learning more about the Christian faith and different ways to give back to the community. I joined the Mount Pleasant Hospitality team to serve on Sundays but was searching for other ways to serve the Lord. Volunteering at Oasis Café enabled me to enrich my spiritual journey and intentionally engage with others within the local community.  

What are some things that you do at Oasis Café?       

Oasis Café offers various roles including food preparers, greeters, expediter, platers, servers, bussers, and dishwashers. We also do setup and takedown/cleanup at each shift. I’ve been blessed to have tried each role since joining but I truly enjoy the server role as it gives me the best opportunity to really connect one-on-one with each of our guests in a restaurant-style experience.  

What keeps you coming back?

It has been a wonderful journey learning the names of regular and new guests and experiencing meaningful conversations with them on a weekly basis. Being able to see their smiles and their faces brighten up when I greet and welcome them by their names truly warms my heart. I also love the true sense of fellowship, connection, and teamwork amongst the Oasis team. It is moments like these that confirm how Oasis Café enables me to be purposeful in sharing God’s care, love, and compassion. 

How have you seen God at work in your own life through the ministry of Oasis Café?

God’s goodness is everywhere but it has been more apparent in my life since joining Tenth Church and Oasis Café. God has opened my eyes and heart to be more appreciative and thankful for all the blessings in my life and seek out ways I can share some of those blessings with others, whether it’s through volunteering and/or giving financially. 

What do you want to say to someone who is interested in serving at Oasis Café?

We all lead busy lives but serving at Oasis is a perfect way to intentionally set aside a special time to carry out God’s work whether it’s on a regular basis or only once a month. Come on by to see what Oasis Café is all about and join us for a delicious meal and chat. Let’s deepen our spiritual journey together in sharing Hope, Peace, Love, Joy, and Faith.
