This week we had the privilege of welcoming missionaries from Cambodia, Kevin and Leakhena Knight, and their beautiful 7 month old daughter. Tenth Kids has been raising money for Mango Tree School in the past month and we are happy to share they have raised $1,243.00!  Thank you to all who participated in this event! Your generousity is greatly appreciated and the money will go towards completeing the classroom structure as well as school materials.

Kevin and Leakhena shared about Mango Tree School and what life for an average child is like in their community.  A six year old named Dana, wakes up very early in the morning and has to walk 1 km to fetch water from a well for his mother who recently had a baby. He then gets himself dressed and walks 1 km to school all by himself without any shoes. Children around the age of 6 are considered old enough to wake up on their own, collect wood, start a fire and make breakfast for their family. This is very different than the lifestyle we live here in Canada!

At Home

Discuss: With your children discuss what they thought stuck out to them most from the lesson.

Apply: Write down two lists of what each of you are thankful for. For example, clean water, warm house, plenty of food...etc.  For younger children have them draw a picture of what they are thankful for. After you are finished share what you each wrote.

Pray: Pray for the children in the Mango Tree School. Some specific  examples might be: praying for safety for the children as they walk to school on their own, for more children to be able to attend school instead of working, for God to continue to provide for all of their needs and how we can give of the resources that God has provided us with here in Canada.
