EXTRA EVENT TOMORROW

Fresh Air and Art Hangout Friday, June 16, 7-9pm, because we want our students  connected! We will all meet at Tenth, then if weather allows, we will walk together to Jonathan Rodgers Park on Manitoba and 8th. We can draw, write, enjoy outdoors, or simply throw frisbees or a ball around. Feel free to bring art supplies if you want. Everyone welcome. If it gets rainy we will create our art and together-time in the Lounge.

UN-ALONE-ING

We know we said regular programming was done for the summer but in times of emotional strain it's so easy to isolate from one another. Let's make sure we're checking in on students. We've been processing grief, loss, and big things. Making space for each other--just as we we are each day--helps us all get through it. Please don't do this alone.

SATURDAY'S CEREMONY FOR EVAN

This Saturday's celebration of life for our CREO loved one, Evan Cheung, will be at 1pm at our Tenth Mount Pleasant site. It's important we let you know as families to expect an open-casket portion of the ceremony. Many cultures use this time to grieve the passing of someone no longer present in their body, and allow even very young children to experience these heartfelt goodbyes. For some this will allow for important processing. We welcome you to discuss this as a family as you consider being in attendance or joining the livestream.

PROCESSING DEATH

Some young people may need to talk about their heavy emotions and questions after being in an open-casket ceremony. We can normalize however they feel. We can make space for talking about hard things together. It may make us uncomfortable, but we can process how it feels different seeing them this way, and isn't the same as having our loved one with us again.

WHAT IF WE NEED MORE HELP?

If as a family you feel your student may need extra support for acute mental health strain, we encourage you to talk to a counselor. If urgent, you can also reach out to the Child & Adolescent Response Team on West Broadway for an urgent response to mental health crisis. Their info can be found in this link:  CART

You can also reach out to Pastor Aisling aisling@tenth.ca or the Burnaby Counseling Group for information about additional resources. We are not alone.
