As many of you may have seen in the news, India's COVID-19 daily infection rates and deaths have reached devastating levels. A highly infectious new variant of the virus, B.1.617, has been found in the country. For two weeks now, India has been reporting 300,000+ daily cases and is just shy of 20 million total cases. Access to oxygen is immensely critical and severely lacking.
World Vision has announced a scaled-up emergency response to address the virus and support the most vulnerable communities. They will be supporting hospitals and communities with personal protective equipment, surgical masks, sanitizer, oxygen concentrators, and temporary structures for patient overflow.
While more and more people here in Canada are getting vaccinated, World Vision is warning that the pandemic is intensifying globally, particularly in the developing world.
