Rose shares meals with the Oasis Café community on Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings. Meet: Rose.

When and how did you first come across Oasis Café?

I used to live in a women’s Christian home very early in my walk with Jesus, and we did a lot of community activities and outreach. I enjoyed serving and really loved to be around people. I eventually moved out and was working for a number of years. Eventually, I had to quit my job for medical reasons and was waiting to be approved for disability. I was low on funds to feed myself and someone who volunteered at Oasis told me to come - that was 2017.  So when I came to Oasis, I felt God say, "You're home," and I had instant community. I soon started volunteering and I feel that Oasis and Tenth Church is my family.

What are some things that you do at Oasis Café?

I started volunteering in the dining room, setting up for dinner, cleaning tables, dishwashing in the kitchen, basically anything they wanted me to do. When the pandemic hit I started cooking with a small team and am still cooking today.

What keeps you coming back?

I believe that God brought me here because He knows I like to be in community and that I thrive in it. He knows my heart and knows that I enjoy serving others. I was once told that I am like a mother hen and that I gather and draw others in. I like to include people and make people feel comfortable in the space we share.

How have you seen God at work in your own life through the ministry of Oasis Café?

As I’ve given myself out for others I have seen God pour into my life in so many ways. I have God's favour in many situations—most recently through a place I can finally call home.

What do you want to say to someone who is interested in serving at Oasis Café?

Come and give it a try...you never know, you may find home.
