Since Fall 2018, Kits Cares Café has been a weekly community meal, jointly hosted by nearby churches, to address hunger and social isolation in the spirit of Christ. Since COVID-19 restrictions began in March 2020, the program has pivoted to serving hot takeout meals and grocery bags and has served over 2,000 meals to vulnerable populations. The City of Vancouver recognizes Kits Cares Café as the only active meal program serving the west side of Vancouver during the pandemic. This ministry would not be possible without volunteers serving countless hours behind the scenes (delivering bread, baking cookies, delivering meals to people's homes, sewing masks, cooking hot meals, etc.) and on the frontlines (greeting guests, preparing and distributing groceries, sharing in conversation, etc). We're grateful to be partnering with Redemption Church, Kitsilano Christian Community, Lord's Grace Church, and City Life Church for this vital ministry in the neighbourhood.
