Ken became the senior pastor of Tenth in August 1996, bringing with him a unique leadership philosophy that draws from both eastern and western traditions. Ken's love for both contemplation and action informs his energetic and creative communication style, which brings his sermons to life and challenges the congregation with the wisdom of the gospel.

A global thinker, Ken served as a trustee for World Vision Canada before becoming a patron emeritus. Before entering full-time ministry, he worked for the Sony Corporation in Tokyo.

Ken's outward energy is fueled by a deeply contemplative personal life, as he enjoys reading spiritual classics and pursuing monastic ideals.

In the summer of 2000, Ken took extra time while travelling to Japan to spend with his friend Sakiko Otsuka, whom he married the following spring. They are parents to their son, Joey. Ken loves exploring nature through sailing, hiking, and spending time with their golden retriever, Sasha.

Ken received the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal, awarded to Canadians in recognition for their outstanding contributions to the country. He is also the recipient of a World Vision Ken McMillan Hero for Children Award.

He earned a bachelor’s degree studying business economics and philosophy from Wheaton College (Illinois), a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a doctorate from San Francisco Theological Seminary. He is a Teaching Fellow with Practicing the Way.

In addition to his pastoral work, Ken is the award-winning, best-selling author of God in My Everything, Survival Guide for the Soul, and Now I Become Myself
