Margaret shares meals with the Oasis Café community on Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings. Meet: Margaret.

When and how did you first come across Oasis Café?

I started coming to Tenth Church in November 2014 after serving many years in a meal ministry at my former church in Ontario. I learned about Oasis Café from people in my life group and from a friend who sat with me in the back pews. I showed up one Tuesday to lend a hand and have been coming ever since.

What are some things that you do at Oasis Café?

I like to help in the kitchen, whether helping prepare the salad, chopping veggies, or cutting up pastries. You can usually find me in the plating room, helping to present the food on plates before it's served to guests. Recently, I've helped with floral arrangements on the dining tables.

What keeps you coming back?

I believe in the ministry at Oasis Café. I am thankful that Tenth provides an “Oasis” for those who are suffering—a place of peace...God is in this place. Matthew 25:40 says, "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you to the extent that you did it to one of these my brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to me.'" What would I say if it was Jesus at the door, wanting a meal? I would invite him in and give him a seat at the table, show him the menu, and serve him. Jesus wanted to be part of the group, eating a meal with people at the table. This is the church, with skin on. You can feel the love here. It's a community where I can contribute meaningfully and also receive. This is my church, my life, and my friends—as we serve with our gifts and talents, we can make a difference in the world around us.

How have you seen God at work in your own life through the ministry of Oasis Café?

I'm thankful that God can use me at Oasis Café. I don't believe in the word "retirement." It's very humbling for me to prepare food to share with others.

What do you want to say to someone who is interested in serving at Oasis Café?

If you have something to give—use it.
