We welcome dependable team members to assist at Kits Cares. The goal is two-fold: to serve in various capacities to effectively run the market and to participate in the life of the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the operations of Kits Cares by fulfilling various roles

  • Participate in community by sharing conversations with and building relationships with guests

  • Help create a welcoming atmosphere for guests

  • Attend available workshops to grow in technical (eg. FoodSafe) and interpersonal skills (eg: Mental Health First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, etc.) 

Qualifications:

  • A person who is friendly, approachable, patient, kind, reliable and punctual

  • An understanding of boundaries and appropriate behaviour, or a willingness to learn

  • Ability to interact well with a variety of personalities and work as a team player

  • Willingness to receive feedback

  • An interest in, and commitment to, working with and learning from others with different backgrounds

  • Approved background check (that includes a Vulnerable Sector Search), completed within the past 2 years (required to work alongside vulnerable populations)
  • Certification in Food Safe Level 1 is an asset

  • First Aid Level 1 is an asset

  • Able to list 40lb

Time Commitment:

  • Depending on the role:
    • Wednesday/Thursday: Cobs Bread pick-up (7:30pm) and drop-off (12:30pm)
    • Thursday: Whole Foods pick-up (11am) and drop-off (12pm)
    • Thursday: On site (12pm-3:30pm)
  • Workshops as they arise

Accountability

The Kits Cares Volunteer reports to the Community Food Market Coordinator.

Kits Cares holds to a Christian worldview. Volunteers are not required to agree with all the beliefs of the Christian faith to volunteer with Kits Cares. However, in the spirit of unity, cooperation, and respect, we do ask that if you have opposing or divergent views that you refrain from speaking openly or privately about those views while volunteering.
