Samuel Chiu will teach about the Christian calling to take care of the earth. Jeff Hawker will share about what caring for the earth has looked like for his family's lifestyle. There will be an opportunity for personal reflection and Q&A.

Samuel Chiu is the Multicultural Program Director for A Rocha (an international Christian conservation organization). He is also part of the Tenth Church community. Formerly a pastor at a suburban Chinese church in Toronto, Samuel moved to Vancouver for Regent College. He was in search of a deeper understanding about the intertwined relations between modern Christian faith and consumerism. There he discovered A Rocha, felt excited about Christians in Canada and around the world already getting involved in care for God’s creation. This is his long held passion, and so in 2010 he very naturally joined A Rocha Canada’s team, reaching out to the Asian communities in Canada. Later he joined the A Rocha International Team with his part-time role coordinating outreach projects in the Asian-Pacific regions.

Jeff Hawker is the Associate Pastor for Tenth’s Evening site and also contributes to Spiritual Formation ministry for the whole church. Jeff is a husband, father, son, friend, relative, and neighbor. He loves to teach, preach, write, lead worship, and meet with people. In addition to helping people grow, Jeff also enjoys helping plants grow. His love for gardening began with one small basil plant before eventually cultivating a whole backyard vegetable garden and even making his own compost. He and his family also engage in a number of practices to take personal responsibility for the environment.
