Sometimes our spontaneous prayers can become empty or repetitive. When we find ourselves praying too much for our immediate concerns, and long for something more, we can turn from our poverty to the richness of God’s Word. Augustine said when we look into the Scriptures, it is like we are looking into the face of God. We should melt in its presence. But how do we do this?

There is an old pattern of praying that comes down to us from early and medieval church that shows us practically how to turn Scripture into prayer. This Contemplative Prayer Night, led by Dr. Bruce Hindmarsh, will focus on this pattern of prayerful response to Scripture and offer a way to make any Bible reading a springboard for prayer.

Speaker:
Bruce Hindmarsh is the James M. Houston Professor of Spiritual Theology and Professor of the History of Christianity at Regent College in Vancouver. He has degrees from Briercrest Bible College, Regent College, and Oxford University. He is married to Carolyn, and they have three children: Bethany, Matthew and Sam.
