Cambodian Couple Leading the Way
From Makara, Tenth's Liaison in Cambodia
One of the most impacting experiences I had in the last year was when the Tenth Church team came to spend time with us in Cambodia last November. When Pastor Patrick and Tenth teams visit, we feel their support and it helps us find the strength in Jesus to continue making disciples in Cambodia where the conditions for faith are difficult.
I will never forget the timely teachings from Pastor Ken on bringing our shame into the light. This was an important message for Cambodians as many of us do not feel like we are enough due to our upbringing and culture. But by believing in what God says in his Word about us, and by turning away from our sin and shame, we are being free to live lives of freedom, helping us to live authentic and fruitful lives.
Pastor Ais shared honestly with us about pain and attachment and gift of God’s loving-kindness comes from surprising places, and surprising people. She was so creative in her leadership, her messages spoke deeply to us and her joy was contagious. Here in Cambodia, we are hungry for models and resources about leading families in the ways of Jesus so sharing as a Family Pastor as significant.
My wife Serey and I had such a special time with our kids at Shalom Valley Camp. Spending time together as a family while being with friends from Tenth and other families of Cambodian leaders was just what we needed after being so isolated during the pandemic. So many leaders have been tired and anxious, but finding shalom at Shalom Valley has been very healing and restorative.
Everyone on the team had a special role. Ana and Roger expressed their love through their warmth and skills as designer and architect. Serey and I are thankful to Patrick and Tenth Church for continuing to believe in us as we raise up a new generation of Jesus followers who do justice and love mercy as they walk humbly with God.
